I found MicheBelz Hollywood Podcast on the website podcast alley! The reason I was drawn to it was because the front page of podcast alley had an interview with the creator of it, since it has gained popularity! Michelle Belaskie is an entertainment journalist in Hollywood who is also a theatre critic. In her podcast, she covers film, television, radio, celebrities, award shows, and more!

I am interested in this podcast because I love reading about celebrity gossip! I already am a regular reader of Perez Hilton so I am very interested in what Michelle has to say! Her broadcast is independent of an organization.

In her podcast, she makes mention of stars from Jonah Hill, best known for his role in the popular comedy Superbad, to stars like the classic Marilyn Monroe. Michelle uses spiced up dialogue to draw in the interest of listeners! Another reason I recommend her blog is because she makes predictions for award shows! It’s always interesting to hear who other people think will win the big Oscar or Emmy award for their category. I think she has an educated opinion based on her profession so it makes what she has to say that much better!

She has had over 100 episodes of her podcast! I think her consistency is another reason her podcast is great. There is always something with new information to listen to! It is easy to follow and is always recent and relevant.

Here is a direct link to Michelle’s podcast: http://www.mevio.com/feeds/michebelzhollywood.xml, so that you can listen for your enjoyment at anytime from your computer or IPOD!

Also embedded in this post is the most recent podcast done by Michelle! It’s great to give you a taste of her style and what her show is all about!

For journalism!

Podcasting may seem like its an idea generated by Apple since the word pod is used; however, it is not! Podcasting did get its name because they can easily be downloaded and listened to on ipods, but Steve Jobs and Apple actually tried to get the name changed to disassociate with them.

Steve Jobs!

Obviously it didn’t work.

Podcasting is basically an audio blog. Instead of reading it, you can listen to it! A big advantage to having a podcast is that it can be downloaded and listened to anywhere, the same way you can download and listen to a song! Podcasts can be listened to at any time as well, all you need is an ipod or another device that plays audio such as an mp3 or even most cell phones these days! Podcasts can also be listened to from computers!

Many people confuse podcasts with video podcasts! Podcasts are normally just an audio source, with no video or picture included. Many people subscribe to podcasts so they can listen to them on a daily basis. There are even systems on programs such as itunes that will automatically download a new podcast if it becomes available to you!

Podcasts have become a great way to branch out. Sometimes using voice can be more effective than just using text. Voices can express more emotion and are harder to misinterpret. Often times people will read a text and think that it has a different meaning behind it because they will give the text a tone that the reader did not intend. By using podcasts the creator can be sure that the listeners get the point exactly how they want them to!

I think podcasting is great because it does give more of a personal connection. To hear a voice behind something is more powerful than simply reading the words.

If you are interested in making a podcast, here is a quick video from youtube that will describe to you how to create one!

Twitter

In class on Monday the focus of our session was Microblogging, or more specifically, Twitter! Twitter has recently taken over the online world, especially with the rise of celebrities and news sights and sports teams using them to promote themselves. Twitter is great because it is a quick and easy way to get your word out. It is personal without being over bearing. The main difference to me between Twitter and Facebook is that facebook is more personal. There are pictures and posts and you have to accept the friend request. For Twitter, the possibilities are endless. You can use Twitter to follow basically anything these days. If you want to get the most up to date news; it´s right in front of you. If you want to find out what is going on in a sports game; there it is. If you want to know what is going on with your favorite celebrity; it is right there!

Here is a video my teacher showed us in class called Twitter in plain English. You can tell it´s not fully up to date because it does not really mention the news and sports aspect which is now what is so appealing to many people.

People love twitter because it´s all your news and information summed up for you. Since posts can not be long, the information is compact and straight forward.  Everything is quick and easy, just the way our society likes it.

The other great thing about it is the ability to follow celebrities or other people of interest that you wouldn´t normally be able to know on a personal level. The celebrities tweet and it is right there for you to read! It is instant supply and demand.

The really cool thing about all the social networking is their ability to interconnect. You can connect your facebook and twitter. Every day on my facebook news feed I see posts that are people´s updated twitter statuses.

Twitter is a great way to connect and share in an easy and fast paced way. Almost everyone can update and check for updates of others from their phones.  Unfortunately, I do not have a Twitter otherwise I would post my address on here. I am planning on getting one some day, but for now I like to get my news the way I get it. I am always stubborn when it comes to these new trends so I try to avoid them as much as possible. I know that it is a great and useful tool but it´s just not for me right now. I know I´ll end up addicted one day though!

Also, here is a useful video on how to use Twitter, in case any of you would like to start!
